Sonja Johanna Strom of Castle Rock, Colorado, passed away on September 2, 2025, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of joy, love, and inspiration. She was the beloved daughter of Peter and Christine Strom, and the devoted sister of Annika Strom, with whom she shared an inseparable bond.
Sonja thrived in the community of Castle Rock where she grew up. From her earliest years through her graduation from Douglas County High School, she embraced every opportunity to learn, grow, and give back. Whether excelling in academics, competing in sports, volunteering her time, or working in her hometown, Sonja approached everything with determination and heart. Her enthusiasm for life and her strong work ethic made her stand out not only as a student but also as a friend and teammate.
Most recently, Sonja was pursuing her degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. While her studies kept her busy, she quickly found a second home in La Jolla, where she loved spending time at the beach and forming deep friendships. She dreamed of making a difference in the world through her education and career, while also continuing to explore new adventures and experiences.
Sonja lived life fully and fearlessly. She delighted in traveling to new places, skiing during winter trips, and diving into the Pacific Ocean waves with laughter and joy. She found fun in small, everyday pleasures as well—trying out new TikTok recipes, getting lost in a good book, attending concerts, and sharing endless moments of laughter with friends. Her vibrant personality made every gathering brighter, and her presence was a gift to all who knew her.
Those closest to Sonja will remember her for her radiant energy and boundless compassion. She had a gift for making others feel valued and loved, building friendships that were grounded in loyalty and joy. Above all, Sonja’s greatest love was for her family, and her heart was most at home in their presence.
She is survived by her loving parents, Peter and Christine, and her sister Annika, along with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Each will carry her memory with them and honor her by living with the same warmth and courage that Sonja embodied every day.
A celebration of Sonja’s life will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Millhouse at Philip S. Miller Park, 1375 W Plum Creek Pkwy, Castle Rock, CO 80109. A reception will follow. In keeping with Sonja’s spirit, the family requests that guests wear bright, festive colors to honor her vibrant personality and the joy she brought into the world.
